Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, a neurosurgeon from Long Island, has responded after being mistaken for the deceased sex trafficker of the same name by Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas).
In an interview, Dr. Epstein sarcastically proposed how he might respond to the congresswoman for misrepresenting his campaign contributions. “I think that I should contribute money to Jasmine Crockett and then let everybody know that she also took money from Jeffrey Epstein,” he said.
The situation arose after Crockett, speaking on the House floor, announced she would “expose it all” upon discovering that “somebody named Jeffrey Epstein” had donated to the campaign of former Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY).
During her speech, the Texas Democrat strongly implied the donations were from the convicted sex offender. However, the contributions, totaling $1,000, were made by the Manhasset-based doctor in April and August of 2020, several months after the disgraced financier died in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019.
Dr. Epstein stated that he had never been confused with the notorious criminal before Crockett’s public comments. “Until she said something, it was never an issue,” he explained, though he acknowledged that he sometimes gets a “look” from people when he introduces himself.
Reflecting on the challenges of sharing a name with an infamous figure, he remarked, “Anytime a doppelganger is tied to a less-than-desirable, it’s never a good situation. But it doesn’t matter to me. I could[n’t] care less.”
The neurosurgeon concluded that the only aspect of the situation that bothers him is the resulting media attention, saying the only problem is “people like you calling me to ask me these questions.”
