Following the trade of superstar Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys are actively seeking to bolster their pass rush, with veteran defensive end Jadeveon Clowney emerging as a key target.
The former No. 1 overall pick recently visited the team, and while a deal was not finalized, mutual interest remains. According to Bryan Broaddus of 105.3 The Fan, the Cowboys were prepared to sign Clowney, but the free agent has opted to delay his decision.
Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer confirmed that communication is ongoing. “Good visit. Talked to him again yesterday,” Schottenheimer said. “This is one of those deals where it’s a business decision. There are two sides that have to come together. It was a great visit. We’ll kind of see how it plays out.”
Schottenheimer added a personal note from their conversation: “When I talked to him yesterday, he was cooking dinner for his kids. Talked to them. His son goes: ‘I don’t know you.’ And I said, ‘Well, you might. You might soon.'”
While Clowney may not have consistently reached the expectations of a top draft pick, he remains an impactful player. The 32-year-old is coming off two effective seasons, first with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023 where he recorded 9.5 sacks, 43 tackles, and two forced fumbles. Last season with the Carolina Panthers, he added 5.5 sacks and 46 tackles in 14 games.
Clowney’s proven ability to pressure the quarterback makes him a logical solution for a Cowboys defense in need of reinforcements. The team has made its interest clear, and the decision now appears to rest with the veteran on whether he will join Dallas.
