Fresh off halting a six-game losing streak, the Detroit Tigers will look to build momentum in a three-game home series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, beginning Monday. The series marks a reunion for manager A.J. Hinch, who will face the club where he began his managerial career.
The Tigers’ 10-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday was just their second win in 14 games and their first at Comerica Park in seven contests. The team has not won consecutive games since June 7-8.
A difficult stretch since July 9 has seen the Tigers’ division lead cut in half. During this slump, the team has been outscored by 53 runs, struck out more than 125 times, and managed fewer than 25 extra-base hits.
This series presents a timely opportunity for Detroit to regain its footing. The Diamondbacks appear to be in selling mode, having recently traded first baseman Josh Naylor to the Seattle Mariners and outfielder Randal Grichuk to the Kansas City Royals.
Following the series with Arizona, the Tigers will travel for a three-game series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
