The Las Vegas Raiders’ promising start to the season has been erased by a four-game losing streak, raising concerns about the team’s direction under its new leadership.
In the wake of their Week 5 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, the team made a surprising roster change on Monday, releasing starting veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt. Signed in the offseason to provide a veteran presence, Pratt did not travel with the team for the game, foreshadowing his eventual departure.
During a Monday press conference, Head Coach Josh McDaniels confirmed the move. “No, he has been released,” McDaniels stated. “I think it was just time to go in a different direction.”
When asked about replacing Pratt, McDaniels indicated the team would look to internal options. “We have Malcolm Koonce [and] Charles Snowden… those guys will work out for us,” he said.
The decision adds another challenge for a defense that has regressed in recent weeks after a strong start. The pressure is now on Defensive Coordinator Patrick Graham to adjust the lineup and on the coaching staff to reverse the team’s troubling downward trend.
