Recent reports indicate the Boston Red Sox have ceased trade discussions involving outfielder Jarren Duran, committing to keeping the former All-Star as they push for a playoff spot.
Despite being active buyers in the American League wild card race, speculation had surrounded Duran due to a surplus of outfield talent. However, the team’s stance reportedly solidified following a wrist injury to top prospect Marcelo Mayer. This development is expected to shift Ceddanne Rafaela to second base more frequently, creating regular starting roles in the outfield for Duran, Wilyer Abreu, and Roman Anthony.
On Monday, Rob Bradford of WEEI reported that, according to multiple league sources, “the Red Sox are no longer entertaining the idea of trading Jarren Duran.” This aligns with a previous report from USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, who stated the team had “no plans” to move the outfielder.
Duran has been a key contributor for Boston this season, batting .259 with nine home runs, 55 RBIs, and 16 stolen bases. His 12 triples are the most in the American League.
While a Duran trade is now off the table, the Red Sox are expected to remain active before the trade deadline. The organization is reportedly seeking to bolster its pitching staff, targeting both starting rotation and bullpen help, and is also in the market for a right-handed first baseman.
As the deadline approaches this Thursday at 6 p.m. ET, it appears one of Boston’s most significant trade chips will remain with the club.
