According to Sean McAdam of MassLive.com, the two teams have engaged in trade talks. While specific prospects have not yet been named, the possibility of a move appears substantial, with MLB insider Hector Gomez reporting that Alcantara is anticipating an imminent trade. The Red Sox’s interest in Alcantara is part of a broader search for pitching, which has also linked them to starters from the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres pitcher Dylan Cease.
Acquiring Alcantara presents a calculated risk. The former Cy Young Award winner initially struggled upon returning from Tommy John surgery, with his ERA climbing above 7.00 at one point. However, his performance has dramatically improved since the All-Star break. In his last two starts, the right-hander has posted a 2.77 ERA over 13 innings, highlighted by a dominant seven-inning shutout performance against the Padres.
