As the 2025 Major League Baseball regular season enters its final month, the Colorado Rockies face a 25-game stretch with significant historical implications. The team is just one loss away from its third consecutive 100-loss season and only three wins shy of avoiding the franchise record for the worst 162-game performance.
Colorado begins the month with a three-game series at home against the San Francisco Giants (68-69). While the Giants have had a disappointing season, they remain in contention for a wild card spot, giving the Rockies an opportunity to disrupt their division rival’s postseason aspirations.
Taking the mound for the Rockies will be rookie Chase Dollander, making his 20th Major League start. While Dollander has battled command issues throughout his first season, he is coming off one of his strongest performances. In his last outing against the Houston Astros, he pitched six innings, allowing just one earned run on three hits while striking out seven. However, he did issue four walks on 98 pitches.
The Giants will counter with right-handed Taiwanese rookie Kai-Wei Teng. The 26-year-old has primarily served as a starter in his four appearances for San Francisco this season, posting an 8.78 ERA with 12 strikeouts and nine walks over 13.1 innings. Teng has found more success at Triple-A Sacramento, where he has a 3.63 ERA and 89 strikeouts in 57 innings, mostly in relief. His arsenal features a sweeping slider and a four-seam fastball in the low-to-mid 90s, complemented by a curveball, changeup, and sinker. This will be his first career start against the Rockies.
