Unexpectedly high temperatures at Wimbledon led to multiple medical delays during crucial matches on Thursday and Friday, as several spectators required attention for heat-related issues.
Play was twice suspended during the women’s semifinal between Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova on Thursday due to spectators struggling in the 84-degree heat. In a notable display of sportsmanship, Sabalenka personally delivered water into the stands during both interruptions. Despite the pauses, the contest remained a tight, back-and-forth affair. Anisimova ultimately prevailed over the top-seeded Sabalenka 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 to advance to her first Wimbledon final.
The second women’s semifinal was also briefly halted when a fan needed assistance early in the first set. The delay did little to disrupt Iga Swiatek, who delivered a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory over Belinda Bencic. The win sets up a final clash between Swiatek and Anisimova, marking the first Wimbledon final appearance for both players.
The heat-related incidents continued into Friday, when play between Taylor Fritz and Carlos Alcaraz was momentarily stopped while a spectator was attended to and removed from the stands. The delay was brief, and the match resumed shortly after.
