The world’s top two players, Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, are set to face off once again in the Cincinnati Open final on Monday. This marks the fourth time in three months that the world No. 1 and No. 2 will compete for a title.
Sinner enters the final in dominant form, having not dropped a single set en route to the championship match. He aims to extend his impressive 26-match winning streak on hard courts as he competes in his eighth career ATP Masters 1000 final.
“It’s going to be a very, very difficult match, but hopefully it’s going to be… a good match,” said Sinner following his semifinal win. “Hopefully it’s a very high-level match. That’s what is important for us players, but also for the people who are watching.”
Alcaraz’s journey to the final included victories over two top-10 seeds, dispatching No. 9 Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals and No. 3 Alexander Zverev in the semifinals. The Spaniard has now reached the final in seven consecutive tour-level tournaments.
“I’m excited about it. It’s going to be great,” Alcaraz said. “It’s the first final [between us this year] on a hard court, so I’m excited about taking that challenge. I know that Jannik, without a doubt, is the best player in the world on hard courts and probably on every surface right now, so it’s going to be a great match and I have to be ready for that.”
Alcaraz leads their head-to-head this season, having defeated Sinner for the Masters 1000 title in Rome and in a memorable Roland-Garros final where he rallied from two sets down. Sinner, however, claimed a decisive four-set victory in their most recent encounter to win his first Wimbledon championship.
### Swiatek and Paolini to Contest Women’s Title
In the women’s final, Iga Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini, with both players vying for their first Cincinnati Open title.
Six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek is aiming for her 11th career Masters 1000 title, a victory that would tie her with Lindsay Davenport for fifth-most all-time. The former world No. 1 enters her first 1000-level final of the season with significant momentum, having recently won her first Wimbledon title.
“Jasmine plays fast, but with a lot of spin, and she has a lot of variety,” Swiatek said of Paolini. “I’m going to have to prepare tactically, but I’m just going to focus on myself.” Swiatek holds a dominant 5-0 career record against Paolini.
Paolini is seeking her third career Masters 1000 championship and her second of the season, following a victory at her home tournament in Rome. Her path to the Cincinnati final included a notable upset over world No. 2 Coco Gauff.
“It’s your dream to play these kinds of matches,” Paolini said. “It’s also nice to compete with champions like Iga or Coco. It’s the goal to play those matches and to try to win them.” Acknowledging the challenge ahead, the Italian added, “She’s an amazing player. It’s always tough to play her… But I’ll try to do my best. I’m in the final, and I like the conditions here.”
