A Black Lives Matter protest temporarily shut down the main entrance to the Minnesota State Fair for about 90 minutes on Saturday afternoon.
According to the St. Paul Police Department, officers monitored the demonstration as participants marched from Hamline Park to the fairgrounds. The group gathered near Gate 5 at the intersection of Snelling Avenue and Midway Parkway, where police provided traffic control to ensure public safety.
State Fair officials reported that Gate 5 was closed at approximately 1:08 p.m., prompting an emergency alert to be issued to nearby residents. During the closure, bus services were paused and pedestrians were directed to alternative entrances.
The demonstration concluded peacefully, and the gate reopened with vehicle traffic resuming around 2:32 p.m. Police confirmed the group marched back to Hamline Park without incident.
