Trade Speculation Swirls Around Giants’ Kayvon Thibodeaux Ahead of 2025 Deadline

New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux, a former first-round pick, is reportedly a name to watch as the Nov. 4 trade deadline approaches. According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, some within the league are questioning his long-term future in New York and believe he could be available, given the team’s 2-6 record.

Selected fifth overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, Thibodeaux has not consistently met expectations. After a promising sophomore season with 11.5 sacks, a wrist injury limited him to 12 games and 5.5 sacks in 2024. Through the first eight games of this season, he has registered 21 total tackles and 2.5 sacks.

The Giants previously exercised the fifth-year option on Thibodeaux’s rookie contract, which will pay him $14.7 million for the 2025 season. That salary could be considered too high if the 24-year-old’s production does not improve. The team also has a potential replacement in Abdul Carter, an edge rusher selected with the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft.

While Thibodeaux is expected to draw interest from other teams, Schultz noted that the trade market for pass-rushers has seen “slow movement” due to a surplus of available players. As the Giants continue their multi-year rebuild, trading Thibodeaux could be a strategic move to acquire assets for the future.
