In early action at PeoplesBank Arena on Sunday, the UConn Huskies took a 17-14 lead over the Ohio State Buckeyes with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter. Senior transfer Serah Williams opened the scoring for UConn, putting up the team’s first four points. Despite an early four-point deficit, the Huskies rallied, with Sarah Strong contributing eight points and Williams adding six.
The matchup presents a key test for No. 1 UConn’s offense, which head coach Geno Auriemma wants to see improve despite the team’s perfect 3-0 start. The Huskies have so far been powered by a formidable defense, averaging 16 steals and converting them into 27.3 points off turnovers per game.
“I’m not exactly thrilled with where we are offensively right now,” Auriemma said following a Nov. 12 victory over Loyola. “So much of our offense is coming from our defense. I don’t know that that’s something that you’re gonna be able to count on every night.”
Coming into Sunday’s game, Sarah Strong leads the Huskies with averages of 17.7 points and 7.3 rebounds, while Azzi Fudd adds 17.3 points per contest.
The visiting Ohio State Buckeyes entered the game with a 2-0 record, led by sophomore Jaloni Cambridge, who is averaging 20.5 points, eight rebounds, and four assists. The game is being streamed on Peacock.
