Clemson baseball commit Dax Kilby was selected by the New York Yankees with the 39th overall pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 13. The pick comes with a recommended slot value of $2.51 million.
An infielder from Newman High School in Georgia, the 6-foot-2 Kilby is a highly-touted prospect who led his team to a state championship. During his dominant season, he was named region player of the year and the state championship series MVP. Kilby posted a .495 batting average with five home runs, 11 doubles, four triples, and 42 RBIs in 99 at-bats.
His performance earned him top rankings from Perfect Game as the No. 3 player in Georgia and No. 42 player nationally. The scouting service also gave Kilby a perfect 10/10 rating, a score reserved for potential high draft picks or elite college prospects. Considered one of the most polished high school hitters in his class, Kilby showcased his athleticism at the MLB draft combine, running the 30-yard dash in 3.55 seconds, the fourth-fastest time at the event.
Kilby, who committed to Clemson on November 25, 2023, now faces a decision between turning professional or honoring his commitment to play for the Tigers. If he signs with the Yankees, he will follow other recent high-profile Clemson recruits, such as Chase Harlan (2024) and Dillon Head (2023), who opted for professional careers over playing college baseball.
