In the past, the high temperature in the summer was a nightmare for the residents of Qatar, as it prevented them from walking in open areas. However, things have changed now, as there are 10 open areas that have been air-conditioned, allowing people to walk freely in the summer.
The 10 locations are distributed across a number of areas in the capital, Doha. There are air-conditioned walkways in open parks such as Al Gharrafa, Umm Al Seneem and Oxygen. Air-conditioned walkways have also been opened in Souq Waqif, the most popular market in Qatar, as well as one of the streets of the Katara Cultural Village, Lusail Avenue, and the plazas of shopping malls such as Al Hazm Mall and Vendome, in addition to West Walk Street in Al Waab and Tornado Dune Plaza.
1- Souq Waqif
This year, Souq Waqif management opened the first project to cool the corridors inside the market, which is considered one of the most prominent and famous tourist destinations in the country, and is visited by tourists throughout the year. The market management moved to cool one of the roads located opposite Al Bidda Hotel and the market square, with a length of approximately 400 meters.
2- Al Gharrafa Park
Al Gharrafa Park is the world's first air-conditioned park, and the cooling system helps maintain an ideal temperature of between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius, making it an ideal place to visit and beat the heat.
The park is located in Al Gharrafa area, covering an area of more than 50 thousand square meters, and can accommodate about 3 thousand visitors per day from all age groups. The amazing designs of Islamic architecture in the Mashrabiya style are mainly responsible for the circulation of cool air inside the park.
3- Oxygen Garden
Oxygen Park is located in Education City and is one of the most beautiful parks in Qatar. The park extends over an area of 130 thousand square meters and is a wonderful haven amidst luxury and natural beauty.
The park is filled with many picnic areas, jogging, walking and cycling trails and is the perfect haven for nature lovers.
The main attraction includes a sports stadium and air-conditioned corridors to enhance cooling and maintain a moderate temperature, and it is famous for its scenic landscape with many facilities.
4- Umm Al Saneem Park
Umm Al Seneem Park contains the longest air-conditioned walking and running track in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records, at 1,143 metres (3,750 feet).
Umm Al Seneem Park includes more than 88,000 square metres of green spaces, 912 trees, a 1,135-metre bicycle path, a 1,143-metre air-conditioned walking and running path, 3 exercise areas equipped with fitness equipment, and two children’s play areas.
5- High Street
21 High Street in Katara Cultural Village offers a unique outdoor shopping experience in an organized outdoor atmosphere, cool air and an environment surrounded by all amenities, which helps to feel enjoyable all year round.
