Eleven people were killed and 18 others injured due to two landslides caused by torrential rains in western Indonesia.
Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Council said on Sunday that the two landslides occurred on the island of West Java, about 150 km southeast of the capital, Jakarta, on Saturday.
“The first landslide resulted from heavy rain and instability of the soil condition. The ensuing landslide occurred while the officers were still evacuating the victims around the area of the first landslide,” a council spokesman added.
He pointed out that the death toll was preliminary until Sunday morning, and said that rain and possible thunderstorms may impede rescue efforts.
