Julia Chavez was a student at Harlem Middle School in Columbia County. According to the Augusta Chronicle, she had an ear infection and headache above the weekend and was recommended antibiotics at a nearby urgent treatment.
The teenager collapsed on Sunday and was taken to the healthcare facility in Augusta, in which CT scans and bloodwork unveiled she had leukemia.

“She experienced bleeding in her mind, lungs, stomach… almost everywhere,” her father, Dennis Lee Chavez, wrote on social media. “That’s the place we found out she had leukemia. It came on so difficult and so fast. Health professionals advised us there was no way we could have regarded.”
Chavez died at 1:35 a.m. Monday, just several hours just after she was admitted.
Household customers instructed the Chronicle that the only symptom she experienced was occasional bruising, but they chalked that up to her getting somewhat of a tomboy.
Her trainer, Caroline Pinkston, reported her 5th-period of time classroom isn’t the similar.
“Julia was the kindest, most massive-hearted boy or girl I assume I’ve at any time achieved, even her speaking voice was sweet. She would speak to any individual and make them truly feel friended,” Pinkston wrote.
Julia will be buried in Grovetown on Friday.
