Skyfall, the highest-grossing installment in the James Bond franchise, is finding renewed success on streaming platforms worldwide. The 2012 film, which is the only 007 entry to surpass $1 billion at the global box office, has become one of the most-watched movies on Amazon MGM+ in countries including Germany and the United Kingdom.
Directed by Sam Mendes and starring Daniel Craig as Agent 007, Skyfall sees Bond’s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) tested when a figure from her past, the cyberterrorist Raoul Silva (Javier Bardem), resurfaces to settle a score. Upon its release, the film was a critical and commercial triumph, earning a 92% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and accumulating over $1.1 billion in ticket sales.
The script, penned by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, and John Logan, was lauded for its compelling narrative and character depth. Mendes, who also directed the 2015 follow-up Spectre, is known for his work on the Oscar-winning war epic 1917.
While Skyfall is available to international subscribers on Amazon MGM+, viewers in the United States can rent or purchase the film on various video-on-demand platforms. Following Amazon’s acquisition of the James Bond catalog, there is industry speculation that the entire franchise, including Skyfall, may soon become available to stream on Prime Video for all subscribers.
