Enrique Bajo’s protégé and part of the NBAmaniacs staff has impressed in his college debut with 14 points, 13 rebounds, 7 blocks and 6 assists in Gonzaga’s 97-63 win over Dixie State.
Holmgren, who is aiming for the next No. 1 of the 2022 Draft, has made history in the Bulldogs equaling Przemek Karnowski’s mark of 7 blocks against St. Mary’s University in 2014.
Also, Holmgren becomes the first player in the last 25 years with at least 10 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks in his debut in Division I, according to ESPN Stats.
Due to his versatility and length, Holmgren has changed the rules of the game in the NCAA with his outstanding ability to dish out game like a playmaker. “When he drives the ball, we know that something is going to happen. We just wait for him to organize the game to get the ball out, “said teammate Rasir Bolton.
Other highlights of Gonzaga were the aforementioned Bolton with 15 points and 3 assists; Julian Strawther, being the maximum exponent with 17 points and 10 rebounds; and Drew Timme and Nolan Hickman, both 11.
