Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Did you know that only 3 of the world’s countries are responsible for 68% of the world’s uranium production? The total production of uranium mines in 2019 was about 54,752 tons, with Kazakhstan producing the largest share of uranium mines, at about 42% of the global supply, according to the World Nuclear Association data from 2019.
Canada ranked second on the list in uranium production from mines, with production accounting for 13% of global supply, and then Australia with 12% of global supply.
Mining methods have changed dramatically over the years, as in 1990 it was 55% of global production from underground mines, and production decreased dramatically until 1999, when the proportion of uranium production from mines was about 33% at that time.
Uranium production from mines has increased dramatically again, mainly due to Kazakhstan, which produced about 22.8 thousand tons of uranium mines in 2019.
