A healthy stash of Chase Ultimate Rewards points can save you thousands of dollars in travel. You can transfer them to valuable airline and hotel partners such as Air Canada Aeroplan, Hyatt, United Airlines, and more if you hold at least one of the following cards:
Chase also has a few transfer partners that tend to offer subpar value. Marriott is one of them.
But through December 20, 2022, you’ll get a 40% bonus when transferring Chase points to Marriott. That makes Marriott a considerably more reasonable destination for your Chase points. It could certainly be worth taking advantage of — if you know the best ways to use Marriott points.

We’re focused here on the rewards and perks that come with each card. These cards won’t be worth it if you’re paying interest or late fees. When using a credit card, it’s important to pay your balance in full each month, make payments on time, and only spend what you can afford to pay.
40% bonus when transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards to Marriott
Per Insider’s valuations, Chase points are worth 1.8 cents each — while Marriott points are worth just 0.7 cents each. In other words, it’s almost always a bad idea to transfer Chase points to Marriott.
With this 40% transfer bonus, you’ll get 1.4 Marriott points for every Chase point you transfer. That narrows the value disparity slightly, giving you effectively 0.98 cents in Marriott points for every 1.8 cents in Chase points you transfer.
In almost all cases, you should still steer clear of transferring Chase points to Marriott. After all, you can redeem Chase points through the Chase Travel Portal for between 1.25 and 1.5 cents each (depending on which Ultimate Rewards-earning card you have) for a Marriott hotel.
For example, the Columbus Airport Marriott charges 21,000 points for the night of September 3, 2023. With this 40% transfer bonus, you could convert 15,000 Chase points into Marriott points to reserve this room for free.
The same night costs $131 in cash via the Chase Travel Portal. If you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, you can reserve this room for just 10,452 Chase points. That’s a savings of more than 4,500 points over transferring to Marriott.
That’s not to say there are no scenarios in which it’s a bad idea to transfer points to Marriott. If you’ve got a very specific redemption in mind which you know you’ll get a good value for your points, it could be worthwhile. For example, I recently booked a Marriott stay which netted me 5.9 cents per point. I don’t currently have all the points I need for my stay — and if I don’t get them within 14 days of my stay, my reservation will be cancelled. Because of this, I haven’t entirely ruled out transferring Chase points to Marriott — after all, I’d be getting a value of 8.26 cents per point.

Bottom line
Chase has announced a new promotion that provides 40% bonus Marriott points when transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards. Still, converting Chase points into Marriott points is far from a no-brainer.
If you think you’ll get at least 1.8 cents per Chase point by transferring to Marriott, this is a good deal. For most other cases, we recommend giving this offer a pass.
