A participant in the 2019 Hong Kong riots who bitten a policeman has been sentenced to 5.5 years in prison, the South China Morning Post said today.
The newspaper reported that the court ruled that the 24-year-old protester committed, within several minutes, a series of irregularities during clashes between police and protesters at New Town Plaza in Shatin district in July 2019. The aforementioned’s violations included committing a riot in a public place, assaulting a policeman, and causing severe bodily harm to him.
The judge indicated that the defendant gnawed the tip of the ring finger (the fourth finger of the hand between the middle and pinky fingers) of the policeman’s right hand, despite the fact that the officer had not entered into a confrontation with him before that.
In addition, the accused deliberately attacked two other police officers, with an umbrella, and incited the protesters to attack or insult the security men.
