The dead were members of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit, the German news agency learned from Lebanese security circles.
The Israeli occupation army said that it launched raids on Wednesday evening against Hezbollah infrastructure and cells, without specifying their locations.
The border region in southern Lebanon has witnessed a worsening military escalation between Israel and Hezbollah since the start of the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip on October 7th.
Since the start of the cross-border escalation, 107 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 75 Hezbollah fighters and 14 civilians, including 3 journalists, according to a tally prepared by Agence France-Presse. The Israeli authorities, for their part, reported that 9 people were killed, including 3 civilians.
The Israeli raid on Beit Yahoun came hours after the announcement of a prisoner exchange agreement between Israel and the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation), provided that a truce will take effect for a period of 4 days in the Gaza Strip, in the first actual step towards calm after more than 6 weeks of war.
In this context, a Hezbollah source told Al Jazeera that the party will adhere to the truce announced in Gaza, if the Israeli occupation forces adhere to it, stressing that any Israeli escalation in southern Lebanon or Gaza during the truce will be met with a response from Hezbollah.
The source added that the party was not part of the negotiations related to the truce agreement and prisoner exchange between Hamas and Israel, and that southern Lebanon is a front supporting the Gaza Strip, and if the fighting there stops, it will extend to Lebanon.
