Most of us are quick to get rid of the water used to boil pasta, rice or eggs, but this water contains a lot of nutrients, and it can be used in a variety of ways.
In a report published by the French magazine “aufeminin”, Elena Ergise says that the cooking water can be used again, depending on the food item that was cooked, given that the hot water absorbs certain elements of the food.
1- Rice water to strengthen hair and get rid of intestinal disorders
During soaking the rice in water, the water absorbs an amount of starch, vitamins, proteins and minerals.
Given these properties, rice water can be used in hair care, as it helps moisturize the ends of the hair and strengthen the cells of the scalp. Rice water is also characterized by its ability to treat intestinal disorders.
2- Potato water is a weed killer
Potato boil water contains many vitamins, minerals and starch, and is an effective natural weed killer. Once the potatoes are cooked, it is recommended to pour hot water over the weeds in the home garden, but be careful not to pour too much as the salt in the water can damage the soil. Pasta water can also be used for the same purpose.
3- White bean water stain remover
The salt-free white bean cooking water helps remove stains from cotton clothing and other textiles such as silk and wool. To take advantage of these properties, beans should be soaked in water for 10 hours, then cooked for at least an hour.
4- Water from eggs and vegetables as fertilizer
The percentage of minerals in the composition of the eggshell is about 95%, and the egg loses them once it is boiled in water. Therefore, the water for boiling eggs is an effective fertilizer, as it nourishes the soil and plants, and the water for boiling vegetables can also be used for the same purpose.
5- Chicken bone water to boost the immune system
By cooking chicken bones with some herbs in water for a few hours, you can get a drink rich in calcium, phosphorous and magnesium, which will boost your immune system.
