The report indicated that the percentage of journalists killed in conflict zones is declining, from 58% in 2016 to 32% this year, in countries such as Syria and Yemen or “areas suffering from low and medium-intensity conflicts” such as Afghanistan and Iraq.
For its part, the Committee to Protect Journalists confirmed that the number of journalists imprisoned worldwide rose to a record high in 2020.
As there are at least 274 journalists behind bars, as of the first of December, and this number is the largest number recorded by the committee, since it began collecting data in the early 1990s, as the number of journalists imprisoned in the world last year reached at least 250.
