Brussels, Apr 13 (.).- 53% of companies in the European Union invested in climate action in 2022, according to a report published today by the European Investment Bank (EIB), which raises that threshold ten points compared to 2021 .
“The increase has been especially pronounced in regions such as Central and Eastern Europe (15 percentage points more) and in small and medium-sized companies (11 percentage points more),” the EIB stressed in a statement in which it specified that its report computes the investment in energy efficiency as part of climate action.
The data from that institution reveals that producers “that make intensive use of energy have a greater appetite for climate investments than companies that do not make intensive use of energy: 48% of them are currently investing, while 57% plan to invest”.
The report also reflects that 29% of companies declare themselves optimistic about the impact of the climate transition on their business, but 32% are pessimistic.
“Almost 60% of European companies declare that they face physical risks, while only 33% of them say they have taken at least one measure to protect their business from those risks,” adds the European Investment Bank.
That community institution adds that 88% of EU companies “have adopted climate change mitigation measures, recycling and energy efficiency being the most popular”.
“Europe’s future depends on our ability to transform and embrace the digital and green transitions. This calls for bold investment in climate action and climate change mitigation. EU businesses have realized that climate change is already it’s not a distant reality,” said EIB chief economist Debora Revoltella.
However, the analyst warned that, in parallel, “continued uncertainty is weighing heavily on EU companies and reducing their willingness to invest in climate solutions.”
