Although the podcast It is a format that was born to be downloaded in a iPod by means of the itunes platform, the success of this type of content came with the appearance of so-called podcast aggregators or directories, which broadcast their content via streaming and that have become the access point to millions of interviews, narrations and debates that reach us through sound.
Globally, more than 380 million people listened to a podcast on one of these platforms during 2021, which means that a fifth of the global population that uses the internet listened to a podcast during the past year. In Mexico, 28 million people listened to at least one podcast once a month in 2021.
Even if Apple Podcast is the platform that Americans prefer to listen podcast, with 34.9% of the total users in the United States; In Latin America, the situation is different: 75.07% of people who listen to podcasts do so mainly through Spotify; the video platform follows YouTube, with 25.25%; iVoox, which brings together 17.1% of Latin American listeners and up to fourth place is Apple Podcast, with 15% of the market share, according to the Pod Survey 2021, produced by the organization Podcasteros.

1. Spotify (iOS and Android)
Spotify is not only one of the preferred applications globally to listen to music, it has also become one of the preferred podcast directories in Mexico. In recent years, Spotify has acquired several companies dedicated to some section of the podcast production chain: Anchor, Parcast and Podz, which is emerging as the application to make and listen to podcasts. 3. Apple Podcast (iOS)
Apple Podcast follows the original line of succession among podcast apps. Podcasts arose thanks to the appearance of two Apple innovations: the iPod and the iTunes platform (hence the term podcast). However, with the streaming revolution, Apple decided to create an exclusive application, which is very useful for those who are part of the apple ecosystem, for everyone else, there are other better options.
4. Google Podcast (iOS y Android)
Google launched Google Podcast in 2018 and this application has quickly entered the list of the most used applications to listen to podcasts. Despite the fact that it has a lean design, which is far from the visual experience offered by other platforms such as Spotify and Apple Podcast, some of the main advantages of this application from the technological giant is the possibility of changing the playback speed, in addition to the integration you have with Google smart speakers.
5. Overcast (iOS)
Born in the United States in 2014, Overcast offers a combination of design, audio, and podcast management features. Through this app podcast listeners can very easily manage their podcast playbacks and downloads; in addition to allowing you to play from a download or through the streaming service.
