Maybe a person of the infamous moments the former president place Sharpie-to-paper was when he allegedly altered a forecast map of Hurricane Dorian, in a superficial scandal afterwards dubbed ‘SharpieGate.’
In September 2019, in advance of the devastation introduced in by Hurricane Dorian, the then-president mentioned the storm was headed to Alabama.
“In addition to Florida – South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, will most most likely be hit (a lot) harder than expected,” Trump tweeted at the time. “Wanting like just one of the major hurricanes ever. By now classification 5. BE Watchful! GOD BLESS Every person!”
In a bid to quell community worry regarding the former president’s errant forecast, the Birmingham department of the National Climate Service established the history straight, blatantly correcting his prediction.
“Alabama will NOT see any impacts from Dorian,” the company said in a tweet the very same day. “We repeat, no impacts from Hurricane Dorian will be felt throughout Alabama. The method will remain way too far east.”
But Trump doubled down when all over again on his promises and refused to settle for the NWS’ forecast, as a substitute presenting a map of Hurricane Dorian’s route with a black Sharpie stroke extending the storm’s route about Alabama. The incident afterwards turned regarded as “SharpieGate,” prompting its honest share of world-wide-web mockery and memes in its wake.
