‘They don’t care about winning’: 76ers star Joel Embiid throws disrespectful shots at Toronto Raptors after narrowly defeating them 104-101 in overtime on Monday night
Joel Embiid threw some major disrespect at the Raptors following the Philadelphia 76ers 104-101 overtime win against Toronto on Monday night.
The comment initially began with the 76ers star praising his teammate De’Anthony Melton, before dropping in the clear shade at the Raptors.
‘We’re always on him, me especially,’ Embiid said of Melton. ‘Everybody really, because I know that as long as they keep shooting, whether it’s him Tobias, P.J. [Tucker], James [Harden], guys coming off the bench.
‘As long as they keep shooting, it doesn’t matter if I make it or not, it makes my job easier.
Joel Embiid through a disrespectful jab at the Toronto Raptors after defeating the team in OT
Embiid started off by praising his teammate De’Anthony Melton, before he threw shade
‘But when you play a team like Toronto, they don’t really care. It seems like, most of the time, they don’t care about winning.
‘They just want to shut down the other star players,’ the Sixers big man continued. ‘But when you play that, you got to be ready all night.
‘You got to stay alert and have the confidence of just keep shooting it and hope that you make them when they come, and that’s what he did tonight.’
Saying that the Raptors, or for that matter any team, doesn’t care about winning is certainly a statement that will not go over well in the opposing locker room, however, it also clearly shows Embiid’s frustration at the defense that was played against him.

Throughout the night Toronto constantly sent double teams at and swarmed Embiid with long rangy defenders who denied him the chance to get a good shot.
He ended the night shooting 6-16, with 28 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists.
A large number of his points came from the foul line as he shot 14-15 from the line during the game.
