HAMMOND – Good Morning America co-anchor and alumna Robin Roberts returned to Southeastern Louisiana University on Friday to unveil a major renovation of D Vickers Hall and the school’s new multimedia education center.
The expansion includes the state-of-the-art Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center, which houses three new broadcast studios: a newsroom, a film studio, and a multimedia studio.
“This building is stellar. It’s beautiful,” Roberts said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “We want the best for you. The best is yet to come.”
While praising the facility, Roberts emphasized that its most important components are the faculty and students. “You are rooted to rise,” she told attendees.
She also highlighted three inspirational quotes featured on the building’s walls that honor her family’s legacy in media. The first, from her sister and WWL anchor Sally-Ann Roberts, reads, “Don’t let fear keep you from your destiny.” The second is Roberts’ own motto, “Dream big,” and the third is from their mother: “Everybody has a gift. Discover yours and share it with the world.”
The new center accompanies a major expansion of the university’s communication and media studies curriculum.
“The new facility greatly enhances the classroom and specialized lab space needed to provide modern instructional opportunities for our students,” said Southeastern President William S. Wainwright.
