Thousands of Comcast Xfinity customers across the United States experienced a major service outage on Sunday, November 17, disrupting internet, television, and phone services.
According to the service tracking website Downdetector, reports of the disruption began around 6:15 PM EST. At its peak, the outage prompted tens of thousands of user complaints, with initial reports numbering around 3,000. The majority of complaints cited failures in internet connectivity, followed by issues with TV and phone services.
While Comcast has not released an official list of impacted regions, user data suggested significant outages in metropolitan areas including Chicago, Philadelphia, the San Francisco Bay Area, Atlanta, and Seattle. Within these areas, Downdetector’s statistics indicated that 68% of reports concerned television service, 25% were related to landline internet, and 7% involved TV streaming.
A company spokesperson acknowledged the issue, stating that teams were “working to restore service as quickly as possible.” However, an official explanation for the outage has not yet been provided.
By late Sunday evening, some customers reported that their services were intermittently returning, but widespread disruptions continued for many.
