A multi-county manhunt is underway for an escaped Rockdale County inmate considered armed and dangerous after he was seen on surveillance footage inside a Henry County Publix on Monday night.
The inmate, identified as Timothy Shane, escaped from custody at Grady Memorial Hospital around 1:20 a.m. Monday, where he was being treated following a suicide attempt. Authorities report that after leaving the hospital, Shane stole a nearby SUV. The owner of that vehicle later informed Atlanta police that a Glock handgun was missing from it.
After crashing the first stolen vehicle, Shane fled on foot and stole a second car near Mercedes-Benz Stadium. He then drove to a Publix on Highway 155 in Henry County, where he was captured on camera. From the store, Shane allegedly used a ride-sharing service to travel to a home in southern Rockdale County.
The Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence, but Shane was not located. Deputies are continuing to question individuals at the home and believe Shane may be receiving assistance.
“We believe he’s either tapping into his resources or he may have stolen a credit card,” said Lt. Billy Burrell. “We still believe him to be in possession of that weapon. That’s why we consider him armed and dangerous.”
Shane was originally arrested by the Conyers Police Department on November 23 following a vehicle chase. He faces multiple charges, including felony fleeing, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and reckless driving.
Multiple law enforcement agencies are involved in the search. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at 770-278-8000, email rcso.pio@rockdalecountyga.gov, or call 911.
