RICHMOND, Va. – The Richmond area could experience light snow on Friday, with precipitation potentially starting as early as the morning commute.
Forecast models are showing increased agreement on the possibility of winter weather. The American (GFS) model is now forecasting light snow, aligning with predictions the European model has shown for the past several days.
Current projections indicate that the morning snow will likely transition to a wintry mix or light rain by Friday afternoon. This changeover is most probable for Richmond and areas to the south and east.
Despite the expected transition to rain, light snow accumulations of up to an inch remain plausible. Forecasters caution, however, that significant daytime accumulation is unlikely, as it typically requires colder temperatures or heavier snowfall than what is currently anticipated.
The storm system’s final track is still uncertain, and a shift to the south could alter the local impact. Meteorologists will continue to monitor the forecast closely as the week progresses.
