A friend of Melissa Caddick’s husband has floated a theory that the missing woman made the ‘choice’ to disappear ‘while she figures out what’s going on’.
Kate Tejano recently made the remarks in a post to a Facebook discussion page dedicated to the disappearance of the wealthy Sydney businesswoman.
Ms Tejano, a mate of Anthony Koletti’s, wrote that mother-of-one Ms Caddick, 49, made a ‘choice to disappear for a couple of weeks’.
Ms Tejano’s comment sparked intrigue given its similarity to a police theory that Ms Caddick may have absconded.
The mystery of Melissa Caddick’s disappearance has now stretched into its fourth week. Above, she poses for a happy snap with her husband, DJ Anthony Koletti
Where is she? The glamorous businesswoman – above at a wedding – has not been seen since November 12. Police were told Ms Caddick may have left her home that day on her morning jog
Ms Tejano described Ms Caddick’s disappearance as her ‘choice’ while she ‘figure(s) out what’s going on’ in a post she later said was just an ‘assumption like everyone else in this group’
Two days before she went missing, Ms Caddick was raided by Federal Police as part of an investigation by the corporate regulator ASIC.
ASIC is probing claims that the wealthy businesswoman had swindled investors in her company Maliver Pty Ltd by as much as $25million to $40million in total.
That has fuelled speculation that Ms Caddick may have been under such pressure from the investigation that she took off.
Ms Tejano, however, backed away from her comment after questioning, saying she was simply making an ‘assumption like everyone else in this (discussion) group.’
Ms Tejano went on to say that she’d never said in any post to the group that she was DJ and hairdresser Mr Koletti’s friend.
‘Maybe I added him (on Facebook) because I just liked his music?’ she said, coyly.
But she did not deny they were friends and records show the south Sydney woman has been bantering with Mr Koletti on Facebook since at least 2016.
Since Ms Caddick went missing she has been outspoken in defending Mr Koletti against ‘slander’ and baseless falsehoods spread online about him.
‘You have no idea who he is or know who his wife is personally,’ she fumed in one post ‘liked’ by a close relative of Mr Koletti’s and Ms Caddick’s loved ones.
‘You weren’t there when all this started and you have no idea what really happened.’
A source who was once close to Ms Caddick said Kate Tejano (above) – who published the posts – may know Mr Koletti from Riverwood, where he grew up
It is not suggested that Mr Koletti had any advance knowledge or role in Ms Caddick’s disappearance.
Mr Koletti, an ex-hairdresser at Joh Bailey’s Bondi Junction salon, has publicly called for his wife to come home at a police press conference.
Detectives have also gone out of their way to say Ms Caddick’s family have helped with their investigation.
When Daily Mail Australia approached Ms Tejano about posts she penned hitting out at other claims this month, she simply said: ‘Everyone’s assumptions are B.S.’
She responded to questions about her the theory she shared by making light of the situation.
She joked Ms Caddick was ‘catching the first shuttle on Virgin Galactic and she’s going to be staying on the International Space Station for the next couple of months’.
The theory Ms Caddick may have absconded is just one of a number of lines of inquiry that detectives are investigating.
Ms Caddick and Mr Koletti would holiday every year in Aspen, Colorado – described as a rich kid’s playground
Ms Caddick and husband Mr Koletti are above. She’s wearing a black sapphire necklace with an 83 carat feature stone, which she purportedly boasted was worth $250,000
As the investigation rages on, details of the extravagant lifestyle Ms Caddick led before going missing have come to light.
Daily Mail Australia previously revealed that Ms Caddick had resided at a $6.2 million cliffside property, hired a private chef, holidayed in Aspen and drove a $300,000 Audi R8.
The businesswoman had also gone around flaunting a designer sapphire necklace, featuring an enormous, 83 carat centrepiece stone.
‘She said many a time it was (worth) $250,000,’ a former friend told Daily Mail Australia of the jewellery, which she kept in a safe.
A court hearing will be held in the case of ASIC and Ms Caddick on Tuesday morning.
Lawyers will appear on behalf of the regulator and Ms Caddick’s brother, Adam Grimley, who she had sought to grant enduring power of attorney.
