How did doughnut become donut?
Whether you’ve had one for breakfast or as a mid day treat…have you ever stopped to wonder why this common pastry favorite has an additional shortened spelling? Buzz60’s Natasha Abellard has the story.
Krispy Kreme’s annual “Day of the Dozens” is Saturday and comes with a sweet doughnut deal.
With the purchase of any dozen doughnuts at the regular price Saturday, get a dozen of the chain’s Original Glazed Doughnuts for $1. It’s a play on the date Dec. 12 (12/12).
Doughnuts in the limited-time Holiday Collection, which includes the new holiday-inspired Festive Tree and Present doughnuts and the returning Santa Belly Doughnut are included in the offer.
There’s a limit of two deals per customer and the offer is valid at participating locations across the nation and the special is not valid for online orders and in Connecticut shops.

“There are dozens of reasons why it’s extra important to share joy this year,” Dave Skena, Krispy Kreme chief marketing officer, told USA TODAY. “On 12/12, we’re making it easy and delicious to celebrate someone you know on the ‘nice list.’ “
A list of the participating locations is available at www.krispykreme.com.
Members of Krispy Kreme Rewards, the chain’s loyalty program, were able to get this deal Friday, too. Learn more about the program at https://www.krispykreme.com/more-smiles/rewards
NationalDayCalendar.com doesn’t recognize Day of the Dozens as one of Saturday’s made-up holidays but Dec. 12 is National Ambrosia Day, National Ding-a-Ling Day, Gingerbread House Day and Poinsettia Day.
