Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Twitter said on Saturday it had updated the warning labels it applies to US election misinformation to state that Joe Biden is the president-elect.
Twitter previously classified allegations of election fraud as “disputed.”
The new warning signs read: “Election officials have counted Joe Biden as the winner of the US presidential election.”
New warning signs now appear on President Donald Trump’s tweet to undermine the election results, and will apply to all future tweets that do the same.
“After the results of the 2020 US presidential election were certified, we have updated our warning labels to reflect the most recent information,” Twitter spokesman Nick Basilio told CNN.
The change came on the heels of mounting criticism by Democratic experts who said warning signs on social media platforms had not done enough in the post-election period.
Twitter said last month it had classified nearly 300,000 tweets for content that was disputed or possibly misleading over the two-week period of the election period.
