Annastacia Palaszczuk asks hotel bosses to dob in Northern Beaches guests

Annastacia Palaszczuk has called on accommodation owners to find any guests from the Northern Beaches and tell them to get tested for Covid-19.

The premier also said that barrier checkpoints have been set up at the border after people from Greater Sydney were caught trying to drive in to the Sunshine State.

Queensland shut its borders to Greater Sydney residents on Monday after a cluster on Sydney’s Northern Beaches grew.

People crossing the border were stuck in queues for up to two hours as police checked permits. 

Ms Palaszczuk said the border checkpoints were strengthened on Tuesday.  

‘What we are seeing is that people are now being turned around, so there will be a hard border closure which will be going in place, people started to see barricades going again this afternoon, she said. 

She urged Northern Beaches residents who have entered Queensland after 11 December to get tested for Covid-19.

‘We are concerned that there are people from the Northern Beaches who have travelled right around Australia, we believe there are people here in Queensland,’ she said. 

‘What I’m saying to accommodation providers is that if you have on your register someone who has come from the Northern Beaches, please put something under their door or talk to them about going and getting a COVID test.’
