Armenian Defense Minister Vagarshak Harutyunyan stressed that the talk about losing the country’s sovereignty due to the deployment of Russian peacekeepers between Armenia and Azerbaijan is wrong.
In an interview via Armenian “Zinuzh TV”, he said, “The deployment of the united Russian-Armenian forces group and Armenia’s membership in the Collective Security Treaty Organization enhances the country’s security.”
For his part, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan pointed out that “the process of clarifying the borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan in the Syunik region and the settlements of Kobatlu and Zangilan is facing difficulties, as the main road linking the city of Goris with the city of Kaban in particular is 21 kilometers long.”
He added, “The road extending between the aforementioned regions, which was built during the Soviet era, penetrates several places into the Armenian lands.”
He continued, “The Armenian-Azerbaijani borders are clarified using existing maps since the Soviet era.”
It is reported that Russian peacekeepers are also stationed at a part of the Gores-Kaban highway in the Syunik region, southern Armenia.
