- A ranking of iconic Australian ice creams has sparked heated debate online
- The list, compiled by Good Food Australia, names the Monaco Bar number one

- But Aussies say they’ve never heard of it and slammed the list as ‘worst ever’
A controversial list ranking iconic Australian ice creams from best to worst has sparked a heated debate on social media.
Compiled by Good Food Australia, it names the Monaco Bar – a block of vanilla ice cream sandwiched between soft chocolate biscuit – as the nation’s most-loved classic. But few are convinced.
The popular Golden Gaytime is second, followed by Mango Weis Bar in third and Tropical Frosty Fruits in fourth.
Lemon Calippo is fifth, with Pine Lime Splice close behind in sixth and Lemonade Icy Pole in seventh.
Choc Mint Drumstick and Rainbow Paddle Pop are eighth and ninth respectively, while Bubble O’Bill – a sweet blend of strawberry, chocolate and caramel ice cream – rounds out the top 10.
Outraged Australians flooded Twitter to slam the ranking, with one man branding it ‘an irresponsible and deeply flawed analysis’.

A controversial ranking of iconic Australian ice creams (including L-R Choc Mint Drumsticks, Mango Weis Bars, Bubble O’Bills, Rainbow Paddle Pops, Tropical Frosty Fruits and Golden Gaytime) has been slammed on social media
The victory of the Monaco Bar sparked the most passionate responses.
‘This is legit the worst ranking of anything ever,’ one man tweeted.
‘Wtf is a “Monaco Bar”? Was this written by an alien with an inverted sense of taste?’
A woman agreed, writing: ‘Monaco Bar at number one?! These are some controversial ice cream opinions.’
‘Good list, but clearly rendered invalid by not having Golden Gaytime at the top. Monaco Bar? As if!’ added another.
One man said he ‘didn’t recognise’ many of the flavours on the list.
A second took issue with the inclusion of the Choc Mint Drumstick, saying there was ‘no way’ it should be in the top 10.
‘Who decided this? Only Mango Weis in my top 10,’ added a third.
A fourth retweeted the list with the sarcastic caption: ‘The definitive list of Aussie ice creams. Apparently.’
Another said he had never tasted the Rainbow Paddle Pop, slamming its spot at number nine.

One acid-tongued critic didn’t mince his words, writing: ‘This list is a disgrace.’
However some felt the ranking had merit, with one woman tweeting: ‘It’s Drumsticks top for me, but on the whole agree.’
A second said it was ‘nearly spot on’, only taking issue with the absence of Peters Raspberry Ripple.
‘An outrageous number one, but strong list overall,’ a third agreed, while a fourth wrote: ‘This wins the internet for today.’
