French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the policies of social networking sites to block user pages, pointing in this context to blocking pages of former US President Donald Trump.
“This is not a democratic response,” Macron said during a webinar organized by the Atlantic Council, commenting on the topic.
He continued, “I would like these decisions to be taken based on the law or directives and instructions that have been democratically discussed and approved by democratic leaders.”

Macron criticized the denial of Trump and his supporters of the ability to present their opinions, describing this as “the new violence in our democracies.”
It is noteworthy that all the leading social media sites decided to block or delete Donald Trump’s pages after his supporters stormed the Capitol building in Washington on January 6, coinciding with a meeting of lawmakers to approve the election results, after a speech by Trump, in which he refused again to acknowledge his defeat and claimed that the election results were rigged. The unrest at that time killed 5 people.
