Animal market in Nigeria raises terror from a new African virus (photos)

The British newspaper “Daily Mail” published horrific pictures and snapshots of animal markets in Nigeria, amid warning that they could spread diseases and viruses among humans in the future.

The newspaper said that a large number of animals, including monkeys, pangolins, primates and sea turtles, are kept in unsanitary conditions, cramped spaces, and workers do not sterilize surfaces and tools and do not wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves.

The footage in a video published by the “Daily Mail” newspaper also showed animals being ill-treated before being slaughtered, “as animals, including pangolins and dogs, are boiled alive.”

It is noteworthy that the Wuhan Seafood Market in China is believed to have caused the spread of the Corona virus for the first time, and experts have repeatedly warned of zoonotic diseases, and the possibility of viruses transmitting from animals to humans, according to the newspaper.

WildatLife said that wet markets in Nigeria operate in the illegal trade in wildlife and these practices could lead to the spread of zoonotic diseases that pose a threat to human health.
