Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Twitter is working on a new feature that will allow users to pay fees for the accounts they follow and like on the platform.
The company announced the feature, which it dubbed “Super Falls” on Thursday, making it clear that if implemented, users would be able to pay content creators for additional content on the Twitter home page, including exclusive ads and newsletters.
“We are rethinking incentives and exploring solutions to provide financial incentive models for creators and publishers to get direct support from their audience,” Twitter said in its presentation on the feature.
A company spokesperson told CNN that the “Super Falls” feature is not yet available, but “Twitter” will have more information that can be shared in the coming months.
The social media company has been exploring subscription options in recent months, trying to make money from its users and diversify beyond its core advertising business. Last month, it announced its acquisition of the newsletter “Review”.
The concept of users who pay for exclusive content from creators has become increasingly popular with the rise of platforms such as “Only Fans” and “SapStack”.
On Thursday, Twitter also announced ambitious growth targets for the next few years, saying that it aims to double its annual revenues to $ 7.5 billion by the end of 2023, by which it also aims to reach or exceed 315 million daily active users, compared to 192 million. A user currently on the platform.
