It is noteworthy that on this day last year, Esperance defeated Zamalek in its stadium as well, but with one goal, and failed to compensate for its loss (1-3) a week before that at Cairo International Stadium, so that the Egyptian team qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.
Then Zamalek qualified for the final match of the continental championship, at the expense of Moroccan sports Raja by beating it back (1-0) and back (3-1), but lost in the final against its traditional rivals Al-Ahly in the Egyptian “Derby” (1-2) at Stad Cairo International.
