Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Warren Buffett joined the most exclusive club of the wealthy in the world, as the wealth of the American investor reached $ 100 billion on Thursday, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, making him the sixth richest person in the world, after Mark Zuckerberg, President CEO of “Facebook” company.
Buffett, the 90-year-old, added about $ 13 billion to his net worth this year as stocks rose in his industrial and insurance group. Berkshire Hathaway’s shares rose nearly 15% in 2021, giving the company a market value of more than $ 600 billion.
Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway are known for investing primarily in slow-growing “value” stocks – many of which have performed well this year as markets continue to recover from the crash caused by the epidemic a year ago.
Buffett recently revealed that Berkshire has bought stakes in Dow’s components, Chevron and Verizon, indicating his new interest in major oil companies, telecommunications and the media.
Chevron’s shares rose by 31% while crude oil prices are recovering the gains they lost during the first months of the epidemic. Verizon has not performed at the same level, as the stock is down nearly 3% this year, but it is still above the lows it hit in March of 2020.
While Buffett has crossed the $ 100 billion mark, he is still far from the richest person in the world, the CEO of “Amazon”, Jeff Bezos, who has a fortune of $ 180 billion, according to Bloomberg.
Bezos is sharing the title with Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, who is now worth $ 173 billion after his company’s electric car industry rebounded after recent losses.
