New York, USA (CNN) – Tesla Corporation revealed on Monday that its CEO, Elon Musk, will be named “Technoking of Tesla”, meaning “Tesla’s Technology King”, and that the company’s chief financial officer, Zach Kirkorn, will be named “Master of Coin”, meaning “Master of Coins”.
Both of them will retain their traditional surname as well.
Musk was also the chairman of the board of directors of Tesla, but was stripped of that title in 2018 after a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission over fraudulent tweets he had posted.
Musk had said that “the funding was guaranteed” to make Tesla a private company at $ 420 a share, when in reality, he had only had discussions, without a firm agreement, about such financing with the Saudi sovereign wealth fund.
Initially, the Securities and Exchange Commission tried to strip him of the CEO title as well, but settled on fine him $ 20 million and imposed him relinquishing the position of chairman of the board instead, a position that today Robin Denholm holds.
The bizarre changes to the executive titles overshadowed a separate company statement, which revealed that Jerome Gilin, who was Tesla’s head of automotive division, last week moved to the position of head of Tesla’s heavy-duty truck.
Tesla is working on a heavily delayed launch electric truck. Tesla had promised that the truck would be available in 2019. In January, Musk told investors that it “wouldn’t make sense” to build the truck now, because it would require 5 times more Tesla batteries, but it wouldn’t sell for 5 times the amount. Batteries are a large part of the cost of electric cars.
While Jilin was named president of Tesla Vehicles, Musk was clearly the person overseeing the company’s automotive operations, in addition to his role as chairman, CEO and chief technology officer of the spaceX rocket company.
