Chris Hemsworth has indicated that the next Avengers film may omit a key location from Thor’s recent storyline, suggesting New Asgard will not be featured in the upcoming superhero ensemble.
While details about the fifth Avengers installment are limited, Hemsworth, who is confirmed to return as the God of Thunder, recently spoke to the Scottish Daily Express about filming locations. He revealed that production is not expected to return to Scotland, which has previously served as the backdrop for the Asgardian settlement on Earth.
“Filming The Avengers in Scotland was a really cool experience,” Hemsworth said. “It doesn’t look like we are coming back for Doomsday. But I’d love to not only visit there again, but to film and do more work in the country. The people are amazing.”
New Asgard was first introduced in Avengers: Endgame after the destruction of Asgard in Thor: Ragnarok and was a central setting in Thor: Love and Thunder. Its potential absence from the next major crossover event raises questions about the narrative role of the Asgardian people and their king, Valkyrie.
Despite the production change, Hemsworth praised the country as a filming destination. “There is something majestic about the Highlands,” he commented. “I’d love to do another movie there one day. It’s just a place made for an iconic battle scene. The backdrop is just stunning.”
The next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is The Fantastic Four: First Steps, set for release on July 25, 2025, while the fifth Avengers movie is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026.
