Scientists have confirmed that the Ural wooden idol “Shiger”, which was found in the Ural swamps, is the oldest and largest wooden monument in the world.
And it became clear to the experts that this wooden idol is older than what was previously thought. Archaeologists confirm that people in that period of time knew how to process wood, so it is not excluded that there are many idols similar to this monument and older than it in the swamps and peat of the Ural region.

It is reported that scientists found this wooden idol in the peat layer of the Torinsky surface mine in 1890. In 1914, archaeologist Vladimir Tolmachov collected this idol, and it turned out that its height is 5.3 meters and it has eight faces, one of which is the head, and the remaining seven are in the form of a flat trunk. These faces are different, not the same, and they seem to express different spirits.
Experts believe that this idol is dedicated to an evil demonic force, which the locals tried to appease. It is the oldest discovered cultural artifact in the world.
It is reported that according to a study conducted in 1997, the age of this monument is 9.5 thousand years, that is, older than the Stonehenge monument or the Egyptian pyramids. But in 2018 researchers declared that it was 11,600 years old.
But scientists from Russia and Germany decided to conduct a new study and determine the age of the wooden idol with more accuracy, and it became clear to them that it is about 12,100 years old, and it is made of pine tree wood in its trunk 159 annual rings. That is, the wood has a life of 12,260 years.
The researchers point out that the inscriptions and engineering drawings on the idol are observed on most of the artifacts found in Europe, which are 10-12 thousand years old.
According to the researchers, this idol was not unique at that time, as the making of such idols was at that time a regular matter. But this idol is unique because it is the only one that has preserved its shape over these long years.
