Tanker truck ploughs into pedestrians leaving two fighting for life in hospital before fleeing the scene – as police hunt for the driver
Two young men are fighting for life in hospital after a tanker truck ploughed into four men and a woman in Melbourne.
The truck veered off the bitumen near the intersection of City Road and Power Street in Southbank at about 7pm on Thursday.
It smashed into a traffic light and the pedestrians, in their 20s and 30s, before the motorist drove the truck away from the scene.
Emergency crews arrived to find two people trapped inside the truck after the traffic light fell on it.

About 15 Heavy Rescue firefighters freed the pair.
The group have been taken to hospital and two are in a critical condition.
A police manhunt is underway to find the driver.
Detectives have urged witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
City Road between Southbank Boulevard and Power Street remained closed at 9pm.
