NORCROSS, Ga. – Strong storms moving through metro Atlanta on Friday evening toppled a tree onto a busy section of Jimmy Carter Boulevard, striking two vehicles. Authorities have confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.
The event occurred shortly after 6 p.m. near Atlantic Drive as heavy rain and high winds swept through the region during the evening rush. Gwinnett County Fire officials reported that the falling tree hit two cars, but both drivers were unharmed.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the debris blocked three left lanes in both directions, causing significant traffic disruptions. Crews have since cleared the scene and the roadway has fully reopened.
The tree fell just outside an area that the National Weather Service later placed under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 7:04 p.m. The warning for northeastern Gwinnett, Barrow, and Walton counties cautioned of wind gusts up to 60 mph and potential damage to trees. That warning has since expired.
