The Philadelphia region is under a weather alert for Friday, July 25, 2025, with a forecast of dangerous heat and severe storms expected from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m.
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Philadelphia, its surrounding suburbs, and parts of South Jersey and Delaware until 9 p.m. Friday. A Heat Advisory is also active for other areas of Delaware and South Jersey for the same period. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 97 degrees, potentially tying the record for the date set in 2016. Combined with high humidity, the heat index will make temperatures feel like 103 to 107 degrees by Friday afternoon.
While isolated showers are possible in the early afternoon, the main concern is a line of strong to severe thunderstorms expected to move through the area from late afternoon into the evening. These storms pose a risk of damaging winds and heavy downpours that may lead to localized flooding.
Conditions are expected to improve for the weekend. Saturday will be partly cloudy and still humid, with a more manageable high of 89 degrees. Showers and storms are forecast to return on Sunday, with a high of 85. Temperatures are projected to climb back into the 90s for Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of next week.
