Warner Bros. Animation is set to release Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires, an original animated film that transposes the iconic DC Super Hero into the 16th-century Aztec Empire. The movie offers a bold reimagining of the Batman mythology, immersing viewers in the history and culture of Mesoamerica.
The story follows Yohualli Coatl, a young Aztec boy whose father is murdered by Spanish conquistadors. Fleeing to Tenochtitlán to warn King Moctezuma of the impending threat, Yohualli trains in the temple of the bat god, Tzinacan. Under the guidance of his mentor, he develops the skills and weaponry needed to confront the invaders and avenge his father. His journey will bring him into contact with key characters such as Jaguar Woman and Forest Ivy.
Aztec Batman: Clash of Empires will be released exclusively on digital platforms in the U.S. on September 19, followed by a physical release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on September 23. The film will be available in both English and Spanish-language versions.
The Spanish-language voice cast features Mexican talent including Horacio García Rojas, Omar Chaparro, and Álvaro Morte. The English-language version stars Jay Hernandez (Magnum P.I., Suicide Squad) and Raymond Cruz (Better Call Saul, The Mayans).
A collaboration between Warner Bros. Animation, Ánima, and Chatrone, the film is based on DC’s Batman, created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger. It is directed by Juan Meza-Léon from a screenplay by Ernie Altbacker. Sam Register, Tomás Yankelevich, and Michael Uslan serve as executive producers.
